The SABC are actually giving us value for our TV license money by showing more than half of the RWC games live (on SABC 2). Their communication skills are still lacking in some respects however, and I couldn’t find the schedule of what games they are broadcasting anywhere on any of their websites (the SABC sport website is the worst of all, and seems to be mostly cricket related as a leftover from the cricket world cup). A few emails later I now have the schedule, and here it is:

ek was so opgewonde. print die hele besigheid en vat dit met drumroll en al vir die hoof van die huis. sy eerste reaksie: “‘n wedstryd is 80 minute lank en hierdie is net 50 minute.” ek weet nie waar hy dit sien nie. maar nou ja.

maeree, stel hom gerus. Die wedstryde word in hulle geheel, lewendig uitgesaai. Dis die tabel wat konfuserend is. Plus die feit dat die laaste kolom van die tabel nie in WordPress gewys word nie (dis waar die 50 min staan), maar waarskynlik geprint is. Daai 50 min is net die hoogtepunte se uitsaailengte.

I assume all the matches listed will be broadcasted and not only the ones where you highlighted, in red, the highlights b/cast times?

All matches listed will be broadcast, at the time listed under the (black) Live B/Time collumn. Then, aditionally, there will be highlights packages broadcast at the time listed in the (red) Highlight B/Time collumn. The Highlights collumn simply specifies wich matches will be covered in the highlights package. An example:
On Sat 8 Sept, the match between New Zealand and Italy will be broadcast live, from 13:30 to 16:30. At 23:00 the same day, a highlights package covering all the games from the 8th will be broadcast: NZ v Italy, Aus v Japan, Eng v USA.

Mark, as much criticism as they deserve for other things, that’s not the case. If you look at the third and fifth columns (Match and Live B/time), you’ll see all the SA games are broadcast live.

I’d like to give a very big thank you to the SABC for getting the above games televised. More should be done in getting back many other sports that have been robbed for the elite few. All SA citizens deserve to see a variety of sport, I hope that SABC will work on this appeal.
